Why Add More Horsepower?!

December 13, 2005

Alright, here’s the first post ever for the upcoming blog called “Add More Horsepower!” Basically, the reasons we created this people-mocking blog are as follow:

One. The Indonesian auto-culture is very, and we mean very, diverse. And that diversity is not in a good way. During these times when we sometimes or even often search for fugly-looking cars, we managed to “somehow” categorize those, like those who like to put chromeplatings all over their cars, or making their SUVs to look like fake ALTO Jeeps, or those who like multi-layered cheesy acrylics on their audio installations, or even those who think monsters are well-suited inspirations for body kit designs (We watch Tokusatsus, but we never thought that our cars are one of those monsters. Really).

Two. Indonesians are most likely easy to be influenced with cheap-looking and bogus car-themed films such as the Fast and the Furious or Biker Boyz, and also get caught in the tangled web of the falsely acknowledged show-car culture. Hence, they ride in innocent cars embedded with multiple and multiple layers of fugly vinyl stickers, or cheap-looking chrome accessories, pointless blinking lights, excessive body kits that would just add extra weight to the car, or even a full-interior audio installation with 16 12″ subwoofers that may impair your hearing apparatus.

Three. We feel that we need to somehow teach the society on how to modify their cars, and we mean to really modify them for a better purpose, not just to look fast, or cool, or even bring their rides into dreaded miseries. Because in our knowledge, form follows function.

We hope with our comparisons, pictures, and also descriptions of every each of our victims, people will somehow get the idea what must be done and what must not, before they do anything stupid to their cars. Think of this as a fashion sense guide for your cars, but we don’t do only cosmetics, we pay attention to details and performances of these claimed fast cars (or are they?).

Since we live in Indonesia, some parts of this blog would most likely be written in Bahasa. Pardon that, but sometimes things are just funnier when written or described in Bahasa, hehe.

We won’t be masking the license plates of our victims. Why? Because when you stepped into the darkside, you might as well be brave enough to tell the world that you’re weird.

We will also post pictures taken by us, and we will try not to put pictures from sites like modifikasi.com or autoshow.permaisuri.com. Why? Well, although those sites contain many and many potential victims, that would just make the hunting a bit easier, wouldn’t it? Where’s the fun in that? Unless the cars are really really fugly, we might just post that here just for the sake of it. Trust us, we have a few of those pics.

Oh yeah, sorry for the standard layout, we haven’t got time to build a matching template from scratch. But eventually we will get there. But as we said before, form follows function.
